Great feedback from a teacher on Reading Assistant.
" I have started to watch the lecture and the thing that has hit me is that while we all tell our parents that it is so important for their children to read aloud each day to them and to be exposed to the printed word, the really important thing is that they have been/are read to so that they have a good model for prosody etc.
In our schools plenty of parents do read to their children each night from a very early age but there are also those who have au pairs, less well educated child minders not to mention busy lives and there is never a bedtime story far less any other story time.
Even at school, the curriculum and it's time pressures has all but prevented the teachers from reading to the class at the end of the day so for those who come from homes that never have any reading story time their is a diminishing opportunity for them to become proficient in automaticity in all aspects of reading.
....
I think it is great and a great time saver for teachers and parents - the latter could buy it in and use it at home as a means of helplng the child develop good reading skills without too much adult input.
I'll be in touch and thanks for your patient help
Have a good weekend"
